I
found the website while trying to find info on DCS and was pleased to see/remember
a few names and faces, although most of its contents where last entered
in 2004-2006. I will say that it was well done and I enjoyed some good
reads in it. Dundee still has that quality of time standing still
and a slower, sweeter pace to its surrounding cities. I still have
family in Dundee and a niece who teaches at DCS. After graduating,
I found myself doing a bit of USA traveling, tasting the country's wonders
but found the truth to the ruby slipper syndrome . . . "There's No
Place Like Home." I lived in Rock Stream for a few years and Sugar
Hill, but I ended up in Horseheads, NY to continue to enjoy the Finger
Lakes, wineries, beautiful change of scenery and the peace that our area
still allows. Married 27 years, 2 children, I would love to hear from any
of my classmates. I often wonder what some of them are doing.
I also would like to know the whereabouts of my favorite teacher Mr. Smith,
who taught 7th grade English. He showed me my self worth through
his kind ways, and he always seemed to find the "real" person behind each
of his students.

Hello,
My name is Gordon Tubbs. I attended DCS for my junior year while living on a dairy farm a couple miles south of Dundee. I then moved to Washington, DC, for my senior year in high school, before a semester at Cornell in Fall 1950. I joined the Navy in February 1951, and served the better part of my 4-year stint as a weatherman aboard the USS Princeton in the Sea of Japan during the Korean War.
Following the war I was a liberal arts major at Ithaca College (55-59) before getting a scholarship to the Johns Hopkins School of International Studies (SAIS) in Washington. I finished the 2-year MA program at SAIS while working part-time at the U.S. Information Agency (USIA). At USIA, which ran the public diplomacy programs that have since been absorbed (none too successfully) by the Department of State, I specialized in public opinion and media studies in the East Asia and Pacific region. I retired in 1993 as head of research for USIA in that part of the world.
Since my retirement I have been Volunteer Reader Correspondent for Nature Conservancy magazine headquartered in Arlington, VA. DCS grads who might be interested in the conservation work done by the Nature Conservancy can check it out on our web site (http://www.nature.org).
I profited greatly by the skills of some excellent teachers at DCS and learned, among other things, that being a dairy farmer was not for me. I had a good friend in the junior class, Leonard van Wyck, who graduated in 1950 and, the last I knew, had gone to university for dental training. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Lenny van Wyck, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you very much.

In regards to our 25th reunion:
Our reunion is this summer and I would like to put together a slide show / movie of memories. I have alot of cool ideas, but would like all my classmates input. If you cannot make the reunion, at least contact us, so we can send you a copy. It is sure to make you laugh.
About me:
I moved off the family farm on Chubb Hollow once, but I could still see it from my kitchen window. I bought it a few years ago and have every intention of staying there for a very long time. I've been alot of places, but nothing beats the Finger Lakes. A lot has changed in Dundee, yet, nothing really has.
I've done electrical engineering for 20 plus years. My kids Britni, 16, and Devon, 10, are thoroughly enjoying DCS at this moment.

We recently received the following e-mail from Mark Lacy, who attended DCS in 1975-76:
I worked for Motorola Inc., for 15+ years, then worked for the State of Texas for almost ten years. I now teach at Martinsville ISD (special ed kids). I am married to a lovely woman from Jasper, Texas and we have five children. Two are still at home: Mary is a senior and Erin is in 5th grade. I served in the USAF and the Texas Army National Guard and I am currently in the Texas Air National Guard as a TSgt. I was deployed to the Space Shuttle Recovery Mission, which happened in Nacogdoches County, where we reside. I was deployed for hurricane Katrina and Rita. Those are times I will never forget! I was allowed to return home just before Rita to prep out home and family for the worse. We had very little damage to our home (We have a brick home.), but some of our neighbors were not so fortunate. We did lose a barn. We were without electricity for ten days. We lost telephone for most of ten days, but . . . ham radio saved us. We didn't have any cellular service either. However, we have a 9 KW generator and natural gas, so we were not hurting for anything!

Hi. My name is Michelle (Cleveland) Hicks. I went to Dundee High School from 1979 - 1984. I would have graduated from there in 1985, but moved away at the end of my junior year. I tried to keep in touch, but lost touch with many of my old friends for the class of 85'. I would really love to hear from some of them. I now live in Salisbury, MD with my husband Dwayne. I have two children (Craig 21 and Erik 18). Please feel free to contact me at dtooga69@yahoo.com , I look forward to hearing from you.

We
were pleased to receive word via e-mail recently that Noel Spears ('62)
is "alive and well," as he put it, after being disabled for a period of
some years. He first returned to work on June 7, 2004 and is currently
a customer care specialist with Roadway Express, Inc. Noel lives
in Maywood, New Jersey, where he is very active in community service activities.
As a licensed amateur radio operator, Noel volunteered at a Red Cross shelter
the evening of April 15, 2007, when his area of northern New Jersey suffered
severe flooding. During the eight hours Noel served at the shelter
that evening, he provided communications and assisted with the placement
of some 127 area residents who sought shelter there. Noel also helped
with communications at both the 2005 and 2006 New York Marathons and volunteered
for two years at the Prospect Heights Care Center.

The following was just received from Martha (Murray) LaVallee ('67) of Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York via e-mail:
I enjoyed looking over the website -- thank you all for putting it out there. I am only in touch with a few of my classmates. I have been in Dundee several times over the years, and had a great time at our class 25th reunion -- many years ago now. My latest trip was with Stephanie (Diane) Coughtry two years ago. We visited the school and other "memorable" sites. If you saw us, forgive us for acting like we were 16 again! I would love it if we got together for our 40th this year! My husband, Rod is retired from teaching and I am still working as a public librarian. We have four grown children and 3 grandchildren -- we're loving being grandparents!
My
best to all,
Martha

Living in Endicott, New York currently, have been down in this area for about 14 years. Came down to finish my BS at SUNY Binghamton and kind of landed for a while. Probably looking to relocate soon because of my husband's job.
Married to Matthew R. Dolder from Athens, PA (Class of 1993). Two children, Lucas Dylan Bell (age 11) DOB 12/15/95 and Amelia Janice Dolder (age 1) DOB 1/9/06.
I am an independent Quality Control Specialist. Currently I am working for my husband's company out of Binghamton.
Would love to touch base with some more people and put a shout out to Mr. Miller and Mr. Larmouth. Would love a schedule of when and where Symphonic Steel is playing next.

I am wondering if anyone knows where Leona Scheffey is? I know she was seeing one of the Lane boys in high school, but I don't know if she ever married or what. Please help if you can. I would love to talk to her and see how things have been. It has been almost 20 years already. We are getting old.

The following message from John Popowich, Jr. has been copied and pasted directly from his e-mail received on August 17th:
Good
evening,
My
name is JJ Popowich (or John C. Popowich, Jr.). I attended DCS from
81-88 (from sixth grade through graduation). I wasn't a native of
Dundee or upstate NY. I was born in Los Angeles. My family moved back there
to move in and help take care of my grandparents. We lived in Rock Stream.
It's
funny. When I went to school there I have to admit I didn't consider it
the best time of my life in my mind. Now that I'm older I look back at
those times and realize just how much I really did like Dundee Central.
I got a truly world class education from some of the greatest teachers
around. Anyone remember Mr. Tortolon? I owe him so much more than
I'll ever be able to tell him for in my mind he really got me through some
rough times. I look at the level of education from where I came from and
Dundee and it was light years apart. I also look at the education kids
get today where I live and it's just not even close to what I got there.
I often tell my friends that my 7th grade biology class at Dundee was more
advanced than the required biology class I took at Cal State Northridge
in California.
While
I was there I had the opportunity to be a part of a great football team...even
though I was only the manager for the team. I participated in the drama
club, in putting together the year book, and I edited the Scotsman Times
for several years. At the same time I wrote sports and local news
articles for the Dundee Observer and was the night time announcer/dj for
WFLR for three years or so. What a great time that was and I look back
at those times as the best now.
I
can remember the sports rallies we used to have, the bonfires, the dances,
and just tons of events. I clearly remember my class mates like it
was yesterday. And my old "gang" Brett Garretson and Jon Lyons. We
were inseparable the last few years.
I
can remember the time we saved Mr. Anderson's job. I think it was in 87'.
He had injured himself and while he was out the superintendent tried to
get rid of him. A few of us, myself and Mark Esposito banded together
and got petitions signed by just about every kid in the school at the time
and threatened to call in the media if they let him go. The kept him at
least until i graduated. What a great guy he is.
I
remember the day they brought that old antique school house and placed
it on the property. I covered that for the Scotsman Times and the
Observer (at least I think they printed the story in the Observer too).
I
know I'm rambling, which is unlike me but it's 12 AM where I'm at now writing
this. I'd love to be a member of this site. Please let me know
what you need from me in order to make that happen.
Thank
you,
JJ Popowich
President, WNC
We feel Mr. Popowich speaks so eloquently of his alma mater and those members of the DCS community who so profoundly influenced his life, that there is nothing this editor can add to his comments. We shall, however, forward hard copies of his e-mail to Mr. Tortolon and Mr. Anderson in the event that they do not frequent this website.
